The UK left the European Union on 31st January 2020.

The Transition Period ends on 31st December 2021 at which point new rules apply to every movement of goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

This is a ‘must have’ course for anyone who moves goods to and from Great Britain and Northern Ireland.    The requirements here are different in each direction.

Our customs and international trade expert practitioner will lead you through the HMRC new regulations from both the GB perspective and the Northern Ireland perspective without bombarding you with technical terms and legal jargon, answering your questions on the spot.

This half day course will show you in easy to understand descriptions and diagrams

  • what the new rules are on 1st January 2021
  • what you have to do in practical terms depending on cargo routing
  • when and if a customs declaration(customs entry) is required
  • how to complete a customs declaration (customs entry)
  • finding the tariff code (commodity code), customs value, origin and CPC codes
  • how to work with a freight agent / freight forwarder/courier
  • your legal obligations and liabilities
  • how much import duty and import VAT will you have to pay under the UK Global Tariff (UKGT) and/or the EU Common External Tariff (CET)?
  • how to pay import duty and import VAT
  • options for avoiding or delaying the payment of import duty such as Customs Warehousing, Inward Processing Relief etc.
  • what is meant by ‘Transit’
  • necessary contractual changes to purchase agreements
  • which Incoterms®2020 to avoid and which to use (Ex Works, FCA, CIP, DAP, DDP etc.)
  • the implications for you as a customer or a supplier

Even if the UK signs a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the EU the changes described will still take place as they are governed by the Withdrawal Agreement, the Northern Ireland Protocol and the Northern Ireland Command Paper.   There is not a ‘no change’ option

New rules and changed procedures don’t have to have unpleasant and unexpected consequences.  Certainly those in Northern Ireland may well be able to gain a competitive advantage!

No previous experience is required.

What’s included:

A full slide pack is provided for future reference.  All delegates receive a Certificate of Attendance for their training records.

The course runs from 10am to approx. 12.30pm.
