Tutor Profile

This course is intended to provide a link for procurement and finance specialists to the world of international goods movement.

Contract terms often have a considerable unintended impact on the physical movement of goods and on legal liabilities.   These frequently un-noticed consequences can have a major impact on cash flow, import duty and tax.

Equally many finance teams optimise their inter-company transfer charging for tax but neglect the impact this will have on the valuation for customs purposes with its link to import duty and tax payable at the border.

It is suitable for anyone new to export, import and cross trades and for those who have had more exposure to logistics and the international supply chain in any industry.

The course is given from an integrated, pragmatic and practical viewpoint rather than an academic and theoretical one.   The emphasis is on avoiding difficulties and delays and achieving cost efficiency across the business disciplines involved.

Course content will include:

- worldwide and EU goods movements

- airfreight, seafreight, road, hand carry and courier shipments

- customs valuation

- tariff classification

- calculation and prediction of freight, duty and VAT costs

- options for relief from duty and VAT

- the use and implications of incoterms®2010

- the importance of goods origin

- product approvals

- intrastats and the Export sales list (ESL)

- working with freight agents

Attendees will leave the course with a thorough understanding of how to successfully and legally move goods around the world, calculate costs, achieve cost control in the supply chain, utilise customs procedures that benefit their business, avoid costly delays, unexpected costs and legal tangles with overseas Authorities and suppliers and ensure a level of customer satisfaction that encourages repeat business.
